The need to research and innovate is a maxim for those who want to secure their future. Tech-nological innovation, which to us always comes with a social component, keeps us alert as to what is happening around the world, to search for initiatives that suit our realities best. And promoting research that leads us to innovation in all our areas and, always, always, through an inclusive and social approach. 5.3 R&D&I Keep reading Keep reading The ONCE maintains lines of work in re-search, development and innovation and te-chnologies applied to blind people and vi-sion research, with the aim of continually improving the quality of services to its blind members and continuing to respond to their needs and to social and technological evo-lution and changes, while at the same time making progress in the development of new intervention techniques and specific tech-nologies. A total of 102 projects have been develo-ped by 2023: 90 on Tiflo technology (assistive technolo-gy) and support products, some of which have become final products (new version of the Ebrai Braille transcription software, new versions of the GOLD Digital Book Ma-nager for PC, publication of the first ver-sion of Apolo for access to ClubONCE au-dio-described content on Android TV and Google TV, among others). 8 vision research projects, funded by the ONCE, mostly by researchers of recogni-sed national and international prestige. 4 social research projects in collaboration with: Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos or Escuela de Fisioterapia de la ONCE. In addition, research and social innovation actions have been carried out: 7th Contest of experiences of innovation and good practices in social services, for which 18 projects have been submitted. ONCE Innova 2023 internal challenge, an innovation project in which employees and members present their innovative ideas and projects. We must highlight the biannual publication of the “RED Visual: Revista Especializada en Discapacidad Visual” which aims to commu-nicate, disseminate and exchange knowle-dge among professionals, researchers and scholars. Through the genetic counselling service, per-formed with expert geneticists and scientists, the ONCE provides blind people with infor-mation on the clinical and genetic characte-ristics of their reality, as well as guidance on the family prognosis of a possible hereditary disease.
